Well, my weather-sports Super Bowl prediction didn’t do too badly last night! I predicted the winner (Eagles) and came within 2 points of guessing their score of 40 points (I predicted 42 points). While I did predict a loss for the Chiefs correctly, my weather prediction of 37 points was off by 15 points, thanks to the incredible Eagle defense!

I am surprised to see how far south the front sagged overnight…none of the models nor the NWS thought it would move down into south Texas! At post time, temperatures are mainly in the 40’s and 50’s across south-central Texas and 60’s and 70’s in south Texas under cloudy skies. Temps will remain close to where they are until tomorrow afternoon, when the front lifts northward into the Hill Country.

A trough over the west will continue to usher in moisture aloft from the Pacific. Several disturbances moving through will start a rain train starting tonight through early Wednesday. While most of the rain totals will be under 1/2 inch, there could be some pockets of over an inch from scattered thunderstorms during the day tomorrow and tomorrow night. As I have discussed in earlier posts, the best odds for rain will be along and north of a Del Rio to San Antonio to Houston line. And as usual, the very best odds will be east of I-35.

A strong front wipes away our rain chances on Wednesday afternoon, dropping our temperatures to the 30’s and 40’s on Thursday and Friday for south-central Texas and 40’s for south Texas. A freeze is possible on both mornings in the Hill Country.

After a brief warmup on Saturday, yet another strong front moves through on Sunday, sending our temperatures down into the 30’s and 40’s again on Monday morning.

Current post time temperatures.

Current location of our front as of post time.

A cloudy day for most of the state today. Mid-level moisture is streaming in from the SW, thanks to a trough over the west.
