Good rains over the western counties!

I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out the radar after coming inside from doing my lawn mowing and edging! The cool front is sparking a lot of activity over the western counties of south-central and south Texas this afternoon. My rancher friend south of Sabinal has already recorded an inch of rain today and more storms are firing up as I work on this post.
Looking at the latest short-range model runs, the front, which is draping almost N-S from Eagle Pass to Hondo to a Wichita Falls line, is not expected to move much further east today. If that ends up the case, then most of the rain will continue to develop to the west of a HWY 281 north and south zone.
Our coastal low (which still has a 20% chance of becoming a tropical something over the next 7 days), will meander south along the coast over the next couple of days. This, along with the stationary front, will increase rain odds for the rest of south and south-central Texas on Sunday and Labor Day.
Rain chances continue all week, increasing again on Tuesday and Wednesday...more on that tomorrow!
As for the tropics, we are still watching a disturbance in the Atlantic that has a 40% chance of becoming a storm and entering the Gulf.
