The latest drought update came out today and over the past month, we've seen some decrease in drought conditions in the Hill Country but increases in the western and southeast counties. Most of us in south-central and south Texas have seen below normal rainfall over the past 30 days.
From the Climate Prediction Center: "ENSO-neutral conditions are present. La Niña is favored to develop during July-September (65% chance) and persist into the Northern Hemisphere winter 2024-25
(85% chance during November-January)."
As I have mentioned in the past, in the short term, La Niña conditions will likely help us this summer, with more tropical activity. In the long term, La Niña winters are often drier than normal.
I'll have a tropical update this afternoon...it's possible that a depression could form in the southern Gulf over the next few days and even if it moves into Mexico, could send some rain into south Texas and along the coast.
