Nice to see that the southern counties of south Texas and the coastal plains picked up some rain over the past 24hrs from our quick moving trough. Now that the trough has moved through, we will see mostly sunny skies tomorrow, with more clouds on Friday, ahead of our arctic front that arrives on Saturday.
Highs will be in the 60’s to 70’s on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, we will see a backward upside-down day with our highs occurring in the early morning hours before the front arrives around daybreak. By sunset we’ll likely see temperatures in the 30’s in the Hill Country and 40’s to 50’s as you move south. Sunday morning lows are forecast to be below freezing for south-central Texas and 30’s-40’s for south Texas.
Monday-Wednesday will stay cold and some spots in the Hill Country may not get above freezing during that time period…it’s also possible that most of south-central Texas will remain below freezing, but it’s still too early to know for sure yet. The models continue to waffle on how cold it will get and how much precipitation will fall. The latest GFS run is really strange, thinking that the arctic air will move out by Tuesday, followed by rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Personally, I would be very surprised to see the arctic air move out that fast.
Below are the latest model runs and info from the SA-Austin NWS. Hopefully by Friday we will have a better idea how cold it will actually get and how much moisture will fall!
