The models are still waffling!

As of post time, the models continue to waffle on what to expect next week. Yes, it will turn cold Saturday night through at least Thursday, but how cold and what type of precipitation to expect, continues to change with every model run. A seasonal front moves through on Saturday morning, followed by an arctic front Saturday night. Temps will drop into the 20’s and 30’s by Sunday morning, then will rise into the 30’s and 40’s in the afternoon. On Monday, we will see some teens in the Hill Country, 20’s for south-central Texas and 20’s and 30’s for lows in south Texas. A coastal low develops on Monday and by Tuesday we could see a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain...that’s where the model madness begins! The GFS continues to forecast warming temps on Tuesday, with very little if any wintery precipitation, while other models keep us close to or just above freezing and are forecasting snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Either way, it never hurts to over-prepare (unless you buy up all of the toilet paper and water at your nearby grocery store!). Hopefully, we will have a better idea of what to expect as we start seeing shorter range models like the NAM and the HRRR enter into the model mix.
