Despite the models still lacking in anything close to a consensus, I’m feeling good about our next system. Not only are cut-off lows well known for delivering great rain totals they tend to stick around for several days, so the law of averages on our side. I’ve seen over the years that weather models have a hard time dealing with cut-off lows, so we may never see a model consensus the entire time this low impacts our weather. This one will form off the southern coast of California and spend at least five days getting here!
Speaking of impacting our weather, there will be a chance for severe storms on Thursday afternoon as a disturbance, warm afternoon temperatures and dry-line give us the ingredients for some robust storms. As is typical for this time of the year, hail and high winds will be the primary threat, but tornadoes are also possible. As we get closer to Thursday, I will keep you all updated on this severe potential.
Looking down the road, the long-range outlooks continue to see better than even odds for above normal rainfall and cooler temperatures, perhaps through the end of March! I do not expect any freezes during the next 6-10 days.

As you can see, the models still vary wildly on how much rain to expect from Thursday through the 19th.
