I mentioned yesterday that I would be discussing long-range outlooks, but we’ve still got too much happening in the short term to dive into the long term! In a nutshell, after this arctic air mass moves out, we will see springlike weather and slightly better than even odds for above normal rainfall.

We saw record lows this morning in Austin, Del Rio and San Antonio. Here are the numbers:

A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 21 DEGREES WAS SET AT SAN ANTONIO TODAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 26 DEGREES SET IN 2021.

A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 18 DEGREES WAS SET AT AUSTIN CAMP MABRY
TODAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 26 DEGREES SET IN 2021.
A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 19 DEGREES WAS SET AT AUSTIN BERGSTROM
TODAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 21 DEGREES SET IN 2021.
A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 26 DEGREES WAS SET AT DEL RIO TODAY.
THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 27 DEGREES SET IN 1942.

Here is a link to all of the lows this morning in south-central Texas:

IEM :: PNS from NWS EWX

Thanks to the clouds, spots in the Hill Country have not gotten above freezing since Tuesday. At 2pm, there are still many locations north of San Antonio below freezing. We may rise a few degrees before sunset, but temps will drop once again into the 20’s in south-central Texas and 30’s in south Texas by tomorrow morning.

On Friday, clouds will thicken as a coastal trough develops and by the afternoon, light rain will start spreading north from south Texas. With the clouds and cold air still in place, there is a chance for light icing on Friday night and early Saturday for the Hill Country and possibly locations just south of San Antonio. The models are still lacking a consensus on this event, both for rain totals and ice.

Temperatures will remain cold through Saturday with highs mainly in the 30’s on Friday and 40’s on Saturday. The sun returns on Sunday and by Monday we’re still expecting 70’s for highs.
