I thought I’d sneak this post in while many of you are watching the Sugar Bowl this afternoon!

While the models continue to be far from a consensus today, we know one thing for sure, it will be cold next week and there is a chance for snow for at least part of south-central and even south Texas. As of today, I certainly wouldn’t go to Vegas on the snow odds, but four of our models now think it could snow next week. Right now, I think the GFS has the best handle on the cold, with a chance that we could see several days of below freezing for highs from Thursday through Saturday. I also could see the GFS being correct on the snow totals as an upper-level low tracks across Texas during from Thursday-Saturday.

Here’s how I see things playing out as of today: We stay mild with highs in the 70’s through the weekend. On Sunday afternoon the first of the cold air arrives, sending temperatures down into the low 30’s and 40’s for south-central and south Texas by Monday morning. For Tuesday and Wednesday, look for lows in the 20’s and 30’s and highs only in the 40’s. On Wednesday afternoon we get a super booster shot of cold air along with increasing odds of precipitation. From Thursday-Saturday I think we will stay below freezing for south-central Texas and only the low to mid 30’s for south Texas. There will be a chance for rain, sleet or snow during this time period…but as of today, it’s still too early to know what will pan out.

Enjoy the rest of the game!
