Toasty, then milder with a chance for rain!
5-7-24 4:30pm. This update is brought to you by Dietz-McLean Optical. www.dmoptical.com
A very hot and humid day across our area with heat indexes approaching 100 degrees this afternoon. The atmospheric cap has so far, kept any big storms from forming, although there is a tiny chance that a couple could pop through the cap in a few hours before sunset. If any do, look for our usual chance for large hail and high winds.
The west Texas dryline makes a run for our area tomorrow, potentially making it as far east as HWY 281. If it does, look for highs approaching or exceeding 100 degrees. For the border cities, it’s pretty much a given that you guys will end up in the 100s tomorrow and could break a few record highs. Normally a dryline can kick up a few storms, but I don’t see that happening tomorrow.
Thursday will be similar to today, with lots of heat and humidity, but the dryline is forecast to stay further west. There is a slight chance for severe storms again in the afternoon, but they will likely be very scattered. A fairly decent cold front arrives either late Thursday or early Friday. There could a few storms along the frontal boundary, but for now, very low rain chances. The front will drop our highs back into the 70’s and 80’s and lows in the 60’s!
Our best odds for rain will come over the weekend as a shortwave trough to our west will send a couple of disturbances our way. The best chance for showers and thunderstorms will be on Sunday. As we have seen too many times this season so far, trying to pinpoint who will receive big rains and who won’t is very challenging for the models. At this point, let’s be happy that there is a chance and hope that your backyard wins the rain lottery this week!
Even though the models have disappointed us lately, they are still the only way of predicting our weather future. I have included them below…take them with a grain of salt and a shot of Tiquila!
