Our second tropical depression has formed!

First off, it's still hot! Heat indexes are once again in the 105-110 range with a few unfortunate spots hitting over 115 degrees!

Ground Hog Day (the movie) weather continues. There is a tiny chance for some pm poppers on Sunday for south Texas and the LRGV as disturbance 94L moves into Mexico, but what you see is what you get for the next week. Somewhere around the second week of July we may get some relief with the high pressure either easing or moving enough east to allow sea breeze storms to move in from the coast. That could also impact any tropical storms that are heading our way around that time.

On Sunday, a large plume of Sharan dust is still forecast to move into south and south-central Texas, so heads up if you have lung issues like I do!

Looking out into the Atlantic, Tropical Depression #2 has formed and is currently moving west. As I have mentioned in the past, this is in a zone that could impact us down the road, but the high pressure over us will have to move or weaken if this potential storm does make it to the Gulf. Also, late June and early July tropical systems are very rare and models may have a challenging time with this one. I'll continue to do daily updates and share the NHC discussions. Speaking of that, here is what they are discussing about Tropical Depression #2:

From the NHC: "The low-pressure system that NHC has been monitoring over the central tropical Atlantic has developed sufficiently organized deep convection in bands around the center. In addition, visible satellite images show that the circulation has tightened, and the center now appears well-defined. Thus, a tropical depression has formed, and the initial intensity is set at 30 kt based on the latest Dvorak classifications. Development this far east in late June is unusual, in fact, there have only been a few storms in history that have formed over the central or eastern tropical Atlantic this early in the year.

The depression is moving westward at 15 kt. A strong subtropical
ridge to the north of the system should keep it moving relatively
quickly westward to west-northwestward during the next few days.
The system might gain a little more latitude toward the end of the
forecast period when it nears a weakness in the subtropical ridge.

Saharan dust will slither into south and south-central Texas from Sunday through at least Tuesday.

Tropical Depression #2 has the potential to become our first hurricane of the season!

The latest 7-day rainfall forecast from the NWS...gee, I wonder where the high pressure is?

The latest 8-14day precipitation outlook gives us a little hope.
