With clearing skies, and a cold front to our north, look for an even warmer day this afternoon than yesterday! Temperatures are already over 100 degrees along the border and heat index temperatures are over 100 degrees over much of south-central and south Texas as of 2pm.
Adding even more grief to the current weather situation, we have lots of smoke that has moved in from Mexico and Central America, with many air-quality monitors reading "Unhealthy" for much of the coastal plains and "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" for much of the rest of our area. Fortunately, with the cold front moving through tonight, our lungs should get a break for a few days.
While there is a chance for severe storms this afternoon for most of south-central Texas, most of the activity will stay to the NE. As of right now, Austin could get a glancing blow from storms around 7pm tonight. Keep your warning apps on because as hot as it is, severe storms could form very quickly. There is a Tornado Watch for parts of central and NE Texas through 9pm.
Cooler weather moves in tomorrow, then rain odds begin to grow over the weekend and early next week as an upper-level low moves across the SW, sending several disturbances our direction. Best chance for rain will be Sunday-Monday. The good news is that besides having a decent chance for rain, I'm seeing the chance for severe weather as being very low. It looks like just showers and minimal thunderstorms for now.
