It’s hard to believe that in two weeks we will be experiencing a total eclipse over parts of Texas! I witnessed my first one in Wyoming in 2017 and it’s beyond words to express how incredible the experience is. If you have seen partial eclipses in the past (even annular), there is no comparison with the real deal! Even at 99%, it still feels like the sun is out, but when the total eclipse occurs, it’s lights out! Stars come out immediately, temps drop dramatically, and the wind starts blowing.
As of this post time, the GFS model is the only medium range model that extends to the 8th of April. The CFS long-range model does forecast precipitation odds for that date and the Euro and GFS long-range models forecast overall rainfall anomalies. As of today, it looks like a system will move through our area around the 3rd or 4th of April and be gone by the 8th. Unfortunately, we could be looking at a typical cloudy spring morning as winds return to the SE and the Gulf does its usual thing of sending in nighttime low level stratus clouds. On a positive note, with the total eclipse happening at around 1:30pm, there is a better chance the clouds will break.
FYI: I will be traveling to Harper (near Fredericksburg) to view the eclipse with friends and family.
